Visit of Prof. Shi Lei from Nanchang University and Prof. Zuo Jian from Hunan University

On July 17, at the invitation of Prof. Li Guanghui, Director of Environment and Resource Innovation Center, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Prof. Shi Lei, Dean of the School of Resources and Environment and Director of the Basin Carbon Neutral Research Institute of Nanchang University, and Prof. Zuo Jian, Professor of the School of Public Administration of Hunan University, visited our university together and carried out a seminar on the transformation of the petrochemical industry's sustainable development with the faculty members and students in the meeting room 4418 of the Training Building. 

The seminar was hosted by Prof. Li Guanghui. Prof. Wang Jinguo, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, made an opening speech, warmly welcoming Prof. Shi Lei and Prof. Zuo Jian to our university for exchange and guidance. Prof. Shi Lei gave a wonderful report entitled Carbon Neutral Pathway and its Complexity in the Chemical Industry, which elaborated the complexity of the chemical industry and its relationship with carbon emissions from multiple levels, analyzed the carbon neutral pathway and strategy of China's chemical industry, and discussed the research challenges in this field. Prof. Zuo Jian made a wonderful presentation entitled Improvement of Urban Environmental System and Optimization of Management Decision, in which he conducted a comparative study on municipal wastewater treatment and municipal waste treatment in China and Japan from the aspects of objectives, topics and countermeasures, and introduced the practices and experiences of Japan in watershed water environment treatment and solid waste treatment that can be used as reference for China. The conference also introduced Japan's practices and experiences in watershed water environment management and solid waste treatment that can be referred to by China. In addition, Dr. Lu Jiaqi, a faculty member of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, gave a lecture entitled Synergistic Decarbonization of Energy Transition and Resource Recycling, in which he introduced the breakthroughs made by Prof. Li Guanghui's research team in recent years in the areas of carbon footprint assessment and carbon emission reduction system integration. Prof. Shi Lei and Prof. Zuo Jian fully affirmed the achievements made by our research team in the field of carbon neutral system engineering and made suggestions on the future research direction. During the seminar, the two experts also communicated with our graduate and undergraduate students and answered their questions.

This seminar was organized by the International Joint Laboratory for Integrated Optimization of Environmental and Chemical Processes of the university, with the support of the 2023 Science Popularization Action for Dual Carbon Transition in Higher Education and Vocational Education of Shanghai Science Popularization Foundation.
